Dice Scry

How to Care for Your Dice

Dice take a lot of use, but a little care keeps them looking good for years. None of this is hard, and it only takes a few minutes a year. Think of it as a small habit that pays off every time you roll.

Here is the basic routine for cleaning, storing and protecting the numbers.

Most dice need much less care than you might expect. The biggest risks are rough storage, harsh cleaners and a lot of sun. Avoid those and your dice will usually stay in good shape.

If a die ever feels grimy, a quick wash is all it needs. If the numbers look worn, stop scrubbing and just keep the die away from cleaners from then on. Give your dice their own bag. A soft pouch keeps them safe from everything else in your bag, and from each other.

Cleaning

Wash dice in lukewarm water with mild soap. Dry them with a soft cloth. Skip harsh solvents, which can damage the finish.

Storing

Keep your dice in a bag or case so they do not chip against metal minis or each other. Keep them out of long direct sunlight, which can fade colors over time.

Painted numbers

Most numbers are painted, so be gentle. Avoid alcohol and harsh cleaners on them, and do not scrub hard. A soft cloth and mild soap is enough.

Still deciding?

A quick wash now and then and a proper bag is all most sets ever need. Treat them well and they will keep rolling for a long time, looking close to how they did on day one. Try the dice finder.
