Speckled vs Gemini vs Opaque Chessex Dice

Opaque, Speckled and Gemini are three of the most popular looks in the Chessex range. They all come as a full seven-dice set, so the real difference is how they look and how easy they are to read.

Here is a quick way to tell them apart and decide which one fits you. None of them is wrong. It comes down to whether you want calm, texture or swirl.

Think of it this way. Opaque is a plain shirt, Speckled is a shirt with a bit of texture, and Gemini is a shirt with a bold print. All three can look great. Which one feels right depends on how much you want the dice to be a statement.

If you are buying for a friend and do not know their taste, Opaque in a dark color with light numbers is the least risky gift.

Opaque

Opaque dice are a single solid color. This is the classic look and it is very readable. If you want the clearest numbers with no distractions, Opaque is hard to beat. It is also the easiest style to match to a favorite color.

Speckled

Speckled dice have a solid base with multi-colored flecks, a bit like stone. Each colorway has its own name, such as Air, Earth, Fire, Water, Space, Ninja, Recon, Golden Recon, Hurricane or Lotus. They add personality and still read fairly well.

Gemini

Gemini dice swirl two colors together in one die, and many have bright numbers like gold. Every die looks a little different. There are also see-through versions called Gemini Translucent and Gemini Gel.

Still deciding?

If you want clarity, go Opaque. If you want character with good readability, try Speckled. If you want the most eye-catching look, go Gemini. Try the dice finder.
